doesn't-have-justice

We’ve all heard the phrase “You have the right to an attorney,” but did you know that’s only true if you’re the one accused of a crime? If you’re a victim of a crime such as fraud, abuse, exploitation or trafficking, or are trapped in our civil or government justice systems, you have very limited options.

AMERICA HAS AN ACCESS TO JUSTICE PROBLEM

LEGAL AID IS LIMITED

OVER 60 MILLION AMERICANS (1 in 5) are eligible for free legal assistance but less than 20% are able to receive any help.

THERE ARE OVER 849,000 PRIVATE ATTORNEYS but there are less than 8,000 legal aid attorneys available in the United States.

MORE THAN 4,400 PEOPLE are turned away from legal services every working day in the United States.

HIRING AN ATTORNEY IS TOO EXPENSIVE

ATTORNEY FEES RANGE FROM  $150 to $1,000 per hour, but paying thousands of dollars of legal fees is out of range for many Americans – especially the poor and vulnerable.

1 IN 7 AMERICANS LIVE BELOW the poverty line. ($11,880 for individual, $24,300 for family of four).

1 IN 3 AMERICANS cannot afford to pay for an attorney.

REPRESENTING ONESELF DOES MORE HARM THAN GOOD

MORE THAN 80% OF AMERICANS are forced to appear without lawyers in matters as important as evictions, mortgage foreclosures, child custody, child support proceedings, and debt collection cases.

UNREPRESENTED SENIORS, IMMIGRANTS, VETS, MOMS and other vulnerable individuals are routinely victimized through scams, fraud and exploitation as they seek alternative help to legal issues.

GOD’S SOLUTION IS YOU.

“”IS NOT THIS THE KIND OF FASTING I HAVE CHOSEN: TO LOOSE THE CHAINS OF INJUSTICE AND UNTIE THE CORDS OF THE YOKE, TO SET THE OPPRESSED FREE AND BREAK EVERY YOKE? IS IT NOT TO SHARE YOUR FOOD WITH THE HUNGRY AND TO PROVIDE THE POOR WANDERER WITH SHELTER– WHEN YOU SEE THE NAKED, TO CLOTHE THEM, AND NOT TO TURN AWAY FROM YOUR OWN FLESH AND BLOOD?”

ISAIAH 58:6-7

“HE HAS SHOWN YOU, O MORTAL, WHAT IS GOOD.
AND WHAT DOES THE LORD REQUIRE OF YOU?
TO ACT JUSTLY AND TO LOVE MERCY
AND TO WALK HUMBLY WITH YOUR GOD.”

MICAH 6:8

Take-Action

Like the Good Samaritan who refused to walk past injustice, you care about justice. Jesus said we should “Go and Do Likewise”.  But how can you do that?
