How to Give the Joy of Justice this Christmas

christmas

Merry Christmas!  Daniel, Helen, myself and Joseph wish you all the best as you celebrate with friends and family.  Count your blessings.  There are many who suffer greatly at this time of year.  Would you consider joining our family as we support those who are less fortunate?  Here’s how.

1.  Be extravagantly generous

Most of my friends are grandparents.  They can be extravagantly generous at Christmas.  Honestly that is a great reflection of God who was extravagantly generous in giving us his son.  The idea of Christmas gifts comes less from the magi and more from God.

All that we have comes from him.  He warns us not to be Ebenezer Scrooge’s but to do good and be generous.  Here is how The Message Bible puts it:

“Tell those rich in this world’s wealth to quit being so full of themselves and so obsessed with money, which is here today and gone tomorrow. Tell them to go after God, who piles on all the riches we could ever manage—to do good, to be rich in helping others, to be extravagantly generous. If they do that, they’ll build a treasury that will last, gaining life that is truly life.”  I Tim. 6:17-19

Imagine that.  You cannot out give God.  The measure you use will return to you.  You will build a treasury that will last, gaining life that is truly life.

2.  Know you are rich

campaignMost of us don’t think we are rich, but we are.  First, we are rich in blessings.  If you are spending time with family this Christmas, you are blessed.  Many are less fortunate.  The lonely widow, the harried single mom, the dad who lost his job and feels the pressure to give gifts, the homeless veteran.  This season is hard on those who do not feel joy.  For those overwhelmed by a legal situation this can be particularly difficult which is why our phone volume and walk-ins increase at Gospel Justice Initiative/Administer Justice.  Dark days and dark circumstances are overwhelming for many.

You are also rich in resources.  The average income in the United States is $51,939.  If you make that much then you are in the top 1.9% of the world’s wealthiest people.  Our problem is we always look at those who have more instead of all those who have less.  We are rich.

Be rich in helping others

I love legal ministry.  When a lawyer leaves their inaccessible corner office to enter a neighborhood and lovingly come alongside a neighbor in need, they reflect Jesus.  We cannot access heaven but Jesus willingly left his corner office to enter our neighborhood and live and walk alongside us.  He sacrificed everything so we could gain access to the Father.  Lawyers sacrifice much so neighbors can access justice and Jesus.   Consider joining them in 2019.

christmasThis past year tens of thousands of neighbors had joy restored as legal burdens were lifted, prayers were shared, tears were shed, and friends were made.  You can be part of this gospel justice work.  You can help us bring good news through justice work for neighbors in need.

Please consider a generous year-end gift.  $5,000 launches a new gospel justice center in a community in need; $2,500 provides a matching grant to an existing location to expand into a new neighborhood in need.  $1,000 helps us provide training and orientation for leaders.  Or consider giving one client administrative fee of $30 a month.   Whatever the amount please know God loves a cheerful giver and you will be blessed for sharing your material blessing with those in need.
